How is Coaching Different from Consulting, Therapy, Sports Coaching or Friendship?

Coaching is a form of consulting.  The difference is the coach stays with you to help implement the new skills, changes and goals and to make sure that they really happen.  Coaching is not therapy.  It doesn't get into the past or deal with human behavior issues. Your coach, working in partnership, will help you move forward and set business and personal goals that will lead to the life you've dreamed of.  Coaching includes several principles from sports coaching like teamwork, going for your goals and being your best.  Unlike sports coaching, professional coaching is not based on competition or a win/loose scenario, it’s designed to strengthen skills.  Best friends are wonderful to have, but is your best friend a professional who you will trust to advise you on the most important aspects of your life or business?

How Does Coaching Work?

Together, with your coach, you establish the framework for accomplishing goals.  You will complete a profile form and questionnaire, which enables the coach to become familiar with you and coach more effectively.

Coaching sessions are held via teleconference, at pre-arranged times, usually 2-3 times per month.  Your coach will challenge you and ask you to do things that you probably wouldn't have thought of doing on your own.  You make the commitment and your coach holds you accountable.  A "Coaching Call Prep Form" is usually sent 24 hours prior to each session.  This report provides your coach with a summary of your wins, accomplishments and challenges since you last met.  If you weren't able to complete specific assignments or encountered challenges, you, together with your coach, explore the obstacles that prevented you from accomplishing your goals and work on strategies to overcome those obstacles.  Your coach is your cheerleader, mentor and support mechanism, celebrating your achievements and successes.  

Typically,  commitments are for a minimum of 3 months, but if you or your coach determine that coaching is not working for you, you can stop after the first 30 days.
